Soul Tree started in 2011 as a result of President/CEO, Marni Barron’s work as a classroom teacher in D.C. Public Schools during the height of the shifts that came with national education reform initiatives. As a teacher and instructional coach, she saw the need for specific scaffolded support for educators to feel emotionally safe in order to take the professional risks necessary to implement reform mandates. Ms. Barron’s perspective from the classroom and schoolhouse was that children could be better served if educators had adequate training and development opportunities that offered techniques designed to deliver rich instruction. With this in mind, she started her company in order to better train teachers. She envisioned this training taking the best of breed technologies combined with evidence based research that is based on how individuals learn best.
